About Leanne Owen is a mixed media artist currently residing in the newly built Appleton Mills Artists Lofts in Lowell, Massachusetts. She was born in 1987 in Methuen, Massachusetts and has lived in New England ever since. She recently completed the undergrad program at New Hampshire Institute of Art, earning a BFA with a concentration in painting in December of 2010. Her work as described by her peers is pleasantly chaotic. It is most notable for Owen's use of saturated color, heavy texture, thick brush strokes and psychedelic qualities, as well as layering and recycling of images. Owen is known for her dexterity with using a wide range of media including but not limited to painting and drawing mediums, found objects, photography, and digital artistic programs. She has worked under artists such as Alison Williams, Peter Clive, Marcus Greene, David Wells, and Soo Rye Yoo. Her work is becoming increasingly popular and has been featured in galleries across New England such as The Steez Gallery, The Map Gallery, and Soo Rye Art Gallery. She has participated in numerous art events and shows, her most recent being Taking Flight, a show featuring emerging New England artists.

Statement 1 about art & the universe
As humans we are subject to a continuous process of the recycling
through out our universe in order for new life to form. All matter once existed in
another arrangement, drifting back and forth from inanimateness to consciousness
over millennia. Nothing is ever completely new and any idea is always founded
on previous discoveries. The themes within my artwork and process reflect this phenomenon of life, death, and reemergence as well as my fascination with
human interconnection and how this relates to the universe.
I use layered images to express these trace amounts of history that impact each human. My work reaches into the third dimension because I want the viewer to investigate the positive and negative space that these layers create; to explore the reality of what is there and to question what is not. My images are
often constructed to resemble an abstract alien landscape or my interpretation of
how the universe may look, but are composed of a random assortment of images
and found objects often relating back to human thought, emotion, and nature.
When I finish my work, I either document it or dismantle it in order to create
another new work from my previous discoveries.
