ABOUT
I am mixed media artist based out of Manchester, NH currently pursuing my Bachelors of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting at New Hampshire Institute of Art. I will graduate in fall of 2010 and am excited to enter to world of being a professional artist. My work has described as pleasantly chaotic and is most notiable for my use of saturated color, heavy texture, and thick brush strokes. When I am not creating art I enjoy going to shows and supporting the local music scene (bands such as Scarlitt, Before The Rise, and Prospect Hill) as well as volunteering at my local animal shelter.
STATEMENT
Everything you know, everything you see, is the result of some recycled idea, thought, or process. As humans, we become original only after being shaped by our experiences. We are created by two already existing beings, a mixture of chromosomes forming our DNA structure, the building block of a life form. You can never predict who a person is going to be, life does not work that way. Life is chaos and I am in love with chaos. When I create, I am celebrating this act of recycling. I think I am different than many other artists in the sense that, most of the time I don't know what an image will look like until after it's finished. The reason why I create is not for the finished image itself, but for the act in itself. I often start with a collage or a sketch. I pick images in which I am drawn to the color, shape, or texture. I take these collages and continue to manipulate and layer on top of them, using traditional processes like painting as well as digital processes . I enjoy this juxtaposition of the natural material versus the man-made because it allows me to work with the surface more intimately. I can build up from a complete flat area to a mass of texture. I tend to get very messy and often like to use my hands as mark making tools. Instead of having my mind set on what the image is going to be, I allow it to take me on a journey. My work is about feeling, not about what 'this is. I want people to look at my pieces and draw their own conclusions. There is no right answer, there is no definite. There is only chaos. People have asked me what I think about when I am making a painting. My answer is this: I want my paintings to look so good that you want eat them. I want you to get absorbed, feel, touch, and engage with them. Because this is how I feel when I am creating, that I am not separate from the piece but that it is only a continuation of my hand. I hope for my work to impact people in the way that you want to become part of the work itself.
